CSRA RESA Newsletter

August 2016

the Director's Corner

Gene Sullivan, Executive Director

Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year!

I hope this welcome finds you well-rested and eager to meet the challenges that a new school year brings. I can remember my superintendent telling us that we have a unique opportunity to start over each year with a new beginning. We can build on our successes and learn from our mistakes. What other profession allows you to hit the reset button and begin anew?

I am hopeful that this year will usher in a new level of support for public education. The United States Congress recently re-authorized federal expectations for public education with the passage of ESSA transferring more responsibility for its implementation to the states and local schools districts.

The GaDOE will be working with local systems to develop Georgia’s plan. Also with the passage of HB364 you will see significant changes in the TKES/LKES process for evaluating teachers and administrators. Hopefully the pendulum is beginning to swing back toward a more balanced approach to addressing the issues and problems facing education in America.

We at CSRA RESA hope you will have your best school year ever! Please know CSRA RESA will continue to support you as we navigate these “waters” together. Truly, the future “belongs to the educated.”
